Classes meet on Monday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m., following the Merrillville Community School Corporation calendar and emergency school closings (e.g. inclement weather).

Sacraments: Children preparing to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation will be given special attention to insure that their participation is focused on faith sharing between parents and child, with support and guidance from trained catechists. Participation by parent and child in this immediate preparation will be necessary for all those who wish to receive the sacrament in this program. All students will have two years of religious instruction and attend sacramental preparation classes prior to the reception of any sacrament.

Reconciliation is celebrated in second grade during the Lenten season, usually the first Saturday in March, at 10 a.m.

Eucharist is celebrated in third grade in early spring, usually the first Saturday in May, at 10 a.m.

Confirmation is celebrated in ninth grade in the fall, dependent upon Bishop Melczek’s schedule and is traditionally held at Holy Angels Cathedral.

Note: Upon the occasion when children need sacramental preparation and they are not in the grade the curriculum is taught, we provide a special class that meets on Sunday evenings to prepare them for the sacrament. Sister Susan Adrians teaches these classes along with Maria Wallace.
